Our favorite drinks: A comparison

There are many kind of alcohol in the world.

Some types of alcohol are said that it’s a symbol of the country’s culture. For example, wine is a symbol of France, beer is a symbol of German, etc. Everyone has drunk and enjoyed their country’s alcohol. I think that knowing about some country’s alcohol is very important to understand other countries' culture.

In this blog, I am going to introduce Japanese & Korean alcohol. And I'd like you to understand and be interested in one of our cultures.

SAKE

SAKE is made from Japanese rice and water. It is pure rice alcohol. As you know, Japanese rice is the most important stuff for Japanese foods. So, people have tried to improve rice’s taste since ever. At the same time, SAKE have been improved.

The taste of SAKE is spicy and sweet. But it is not so strong, it’s mild. Because almost Japanese foods are mild. SAKE is made to drink with Japanese mild foods. SAKE doesn't have any color, it’s clear. It is said that a clearer SAKE is better.

SAKE is usually drunk at normal temperature. But in winter, people worm it, and in summer, they cool it. You can enjoy drinking SAKE regardless of its temperature.

When people drink SAKE, sometimes they use a kind of cup named ‘Otyoko’. It is very small cup.

Otyoko is very small, so people have to pour SAKE each time an Otyoko become empty. Why they use such a small cup? Because Japanese people think that pouring SAKE is important to enjoy drinking.

There are many kind of SAKE in Japan. But the SAKE I would recommend is the brand of “Dassai”.

Japanese people say ‘if you get a good SAKE, you can drink it a lot like 'drinking water’. I think Dassai is THE good SAKE. If you have an opportunity to visit to Japan, I would like you to drink Dassai.

RICE-WINE

I like Korean alcohol “Mak-geol-li”, called Rice-wine.
I’m not a habitual drinker as I wrote it about the alcohol. Nevertheless, why I write the alcohol is that alcohol is the most global and attractive drink to converse with many people. Among the many kind of alcohol, Rice-wine is the most Korean style and traditional. I have been the sense of duty making people to give their attention to Korea while I was writing this blog!
